Welcome to 2026: A Year of Intentional HR Leadership

Starting 2026 with Structure, Strategy, and Humanity

video preview

Happy New Year!

Every January, HR leaders feel it. The pressure to reset. The urgency to catch up. The quiet question of whether we are truly prepared for what is coming next.

As we step into this new year, I want to be clear about one thing. HR is not broken. But the way many organizations have been operating HR is no longer sustainable.

Too many HR professionals are still expected to function without structure, without clarity, and without the authority they need to do their jobs well. We are asked to fix culture, manage compliance, support leaders, adopt new technology, and protect the organization, often without the right tools or decision-making power. That is not leadership. That is survival mode.

This year must be different.

In 2026, HR has to move from reaction to readiness. From scrambling to structure. From policies sitting in folders to systems that actually work.

I continue to say this because it matters. HR is not just about policies. It is about judgment. Judgment comes from understanding risk, people, systems, and timing. Technology can support that work, but it cannot replace human discernment. AI can help us move faster, but it cannot tell us what is fair, what is ethical, or what is wise.

That is why structure matters so much right now.

When your handbook is outdated, when your processes are unclear, when your benefits are not aligned with your workforce, you are not just out of compliance. You are exposed. And when HR is exposed, the entire organization feels it.

This is also the year HR professionals must stop apologizing for needing support. Having a portal. Having a system. Having a place to ask real questions. Having access to expertise when a tough issue arises. That is not a luxury. That is responsible leadership.

This year, I encourage you to focus on three things.

Clarity. Know what policies you have, what risks exist, and where your gaps are.

Consistency. Make sure HR is not dependent on one person’s memory or availability.

Confidence. Step into your role as a strategic partner who understands both people and governance.

If you do that, everything else becomes easier. Conversations improve. Decisions are stronger. Leaders trust HR more. Employees feel safer.

My hope for you this year is simple. That HR feels less overwhelming and more intentional. That you feel supported, not isolated. And that you lead with both humanity and structure, without having to choose between the two.

Here’s to a year where HR is unlocked, aligned, and empowered.

Ways We Can Support You This Year

As organizations reset for the year, these are the areas where many HR teams are asking for support.

For organizations with 50 or more employees
Get compliant and ensure your HR practices and benefits are aligned, up to date, and defensible. This includes reviewing risk areas that often go overlooked until there is a problem.

Portable handbook and HR portal support
Have a handbook and HR portal that works with whatever system you are using. Your policies should not be locked into one platform or vendor. They should move with your organization as it grows and evolves.

Exclusive 1 on 1 HR coaching
One tough issue. One focused hour. Real answers. Get exclusive HR coaching for $299 per hour through the Skool community. This is designed for leaders and HR professionals who need to solve a real problem, not talk in theory.

Access this through HR Unlocked on Skool and get the clarity you need to move forward with confidence.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Dr. Thelá on the Radio with Doug Davis

Doug Davis returned with Your Black Business and introduced a new segment, Let’s Build Wealth, airing on The Black Perspective on the Black Information Network. Within this segment is a four-part series titled Insurance Makes You Rich featuring Dr. Thelá Thatch.

Part One, Unlearning the Fear of Insurance - How Wealth Is an Attitude, centers on reframing insurance as a tool for legacy, stability, and long-term wealth rather than something tied only to loss. The conversation explores how mindset shapes financial decisions, why planning for the unexpected matters, and how insurance can serve as a strategic asset for families and entrepreneurs.

Dr. Thelá also shares practical guidance on getting started, understanding different types of policies, and using accessible tools, including AI, to better understand coverage and make informed decisions. The message throughout is clear: wealth is not just about what you earn, but what you protect, grow, and pass on.

You can listen to Part One of the series here.
